Cuba was part of the colony of Spain in the "new world" and was the first of all the colonies to think of the autonomy. On 1850, Narciso Lopez made the first call to the autonomy of Cuba and he was supported by the peasants, but they couldn't reach that goal; he also made the actual Cuban flag.
On 1868, was the scream of Yara, in order to return to the fight for the autonomy of Cuba and started a period of chaos in the island.
The General Valeriano Weyler was the responsible to return the order in Cuba so he made to can defend themselves from the mambises (rebel peasants).
Arsenio Martinez repleaced Weyler and on 1878 signed the Peace of Zanjon.
